Hannah's Story
Hi there I'm Hannah, the baker and owner of Butter Mountain Bakery. My baking career began on the kitchen counter licking the chocolate chip cookie dough batter out of the bowl with my Mom. I'm originally from CT but my family has been coming to the Valley since the 60's. The passion for skiing & snowmobiling continues to run strong. I fell so in love with the area I grew up vacationing in that after graduating college and pastry school I moved here to "figure it out" one winter ;) I started working at Mount Snow teaching snowboarding and in the summer I began working at Boyd Family Farm, growing food and learning about our local food system. Ten years later and I never left!

I started selling my baked goods in 2015 at the Whitingham farmer's market where I quickly gained a following. When the market ended, I started a CSB (community supported bakery) from my home kitchen and offered a monthly subscription of bread and baked goods focusing on using local and seasonal ingredients. Word spread and I became friendly with the owners of Cask & Kiln who offered the use of their wood fired oven to bake bread from. I went into the restaurant early in the morning and learned to use the residual heat to bake my sourdoughs. I received a commercial baking license and started baking my CSB's from the kitchen and began offering my Brown Butter Maple cookies wholesale to businesses around town, including Ratu's and Mount Snow, where they continue to fly off the shelves!
In 2019, I won the Make it On Main Street contest alongside 802 Fitness. Both businesses moved into spaces in the Old School Community Center where we continue to operate. During the pandemic, I pivoted my business to a no contact/preorder operation.
Every week I continue to post a menu here on my website, offering a consistent menu of sourdoughs, bagels and cookies as well as weekly specials. I'm always baking something new and continue to use local and seasonal items wherever possible. In addition to my weekly orders and wholesale cookie and bread business, I also make custom celebration cakes, wedding cakes and dessert bars!
I'm so grateful my grandparents found this special place and that I'm able to share what I love and connect with so many of you in doing so.
